Workshop Announcement: ---------------------------------------------------------------- Algorithmic Convex Geometry ---------------------------------------------------------------- November 5 to November 9, 2007 American Institute of Mathematics Research Conference Center Palo Alto, California http://aimath.org/ARCC/workshops/convexgeometry.html ------------ Description: ------------ This workshop, sponsored by AIM and the NSF, is motivated by algorithms and draws heavily on probability (especially the theory of stochastic processes), convex geometry and functional analysis. The workshop will bring together leading researcher in these areas. On one hand, algorithms researchers will clearly benefit from this. What is equally exciting is that algorithmic insights have started returning the favor --- they have led to questions and advances in convex geometry and probability, notably in the form of isoperimetric inequalities and rapidly-mixing geometric random walks. The workshop will identify and focus on such directions, showing new directions for analysts, geometers and probabilists. It is hoped that such a confluence will make substantial progress in shaping this field. The workshop is organized by Assaf Naor and Santosh Vempala. For more details please see the workshop announcement page: http://aimath.org/ARCC/workshops/convexgeometry.html Space and funding is available for a few more participants. If you would like to participate, please apply by filling out the on-line form (available at the link above) no later than July 1, 2007. Applications are open to all, and we especially encourage women, underrepresented minorities, junior mathematicians, and researchers from primarily undergraduate institutions to apply. Before submitting an application, please read the ARCC policies concerning participation and financial support for participants. -------------------------------------- AIM Research Conference Center (ARCC): -------------------------------------- The AIM Research Conference Center (ARCC) hosts focused workshops in all areas of the mathematical sciences. ARCC focused workshops are distinguished by their emphasis on a specific mathematical goal, such as making progress on a significant unsolved problem, understanding the proof of an important new result, or investigating the convergence between two distinct areas of mathematics.
