Workshop Announcement: ---------------------------------------------------------------- Automated production of Braille textbooks ---------------------------------------------------------------- July 18 to July 22, 2022 Baltimore, Maryland http://aimath.org/workshops/upcoming/braillebooks ------------ Description: ------------ This workshop, sponsored by AIM and the NSF, is intended to extend the availability of mathematics textbooks in Braille to students and professionals who are visually challenged. The goal is to produce mathematical text accurately, inexpensively, and in a timely manner by developing a user-friendly software workflow using open-source software to automatically translate mathematical text to Braille ready for embossing. Particular attention will be given to the production of large formulas and tactile versions of graphs and diagrams. The workshop is organized by Alexei Kolesnikov, Al Maneki, Martha Siegel, and Volker Sorge. For more details please see the workshop announcement page: http://aimath.org/workshops/upcoming/braillebooks Space and funding is available for a few more participants. If you would like to participate, please apply by filling out the on-line form (available at the link above) no later than April 1, 2022. Applications are open to all, and we especially encourage women, underrepresented minorities, junior mathematicians, and researchers from primarily undergraduate institutions to apply. -------------------------------- AIM Research Conference Center: -------------------------------- The American Institute of Mathematics (AIM) hosts focused workshops in all areas of the mathematical sciences. AIM focused workshops are distinguished by their emphasis on a specific mathematical goal, such as making progress on a significant unsolved problem, understanding the proof of an important new result, or investigating the convergence between two distinct areas of mathematics.
