June 30 to July 2, 2025

at the

American Institute of Mathematics, Pasadena, California

organized by

Alessandra Pantano and Cynthia Sanchez Tapia

Original Announcement

This workshop will bring together experts of joyful mathematics who are interested in working in teams to produce new community-oriented Math Circle activities.

The workshop has two overarching goals:

  1. Build a vibrant community of Math Circle leaders in Southern California.
  2. Create joyful Math Circle activities which engage youth in authentic mathematical experiences, and are responsive to their interests and assets.
During the workshop, participants will work in teams to develop informal math activities of exemplary quality which connect youth with issues they care about. We seek to create mathematical tasks with a low floor and a high ceiling, which are joyful, engaging and collaborative, but also cognitively demanding.

It is expected that the participants will continue to collaborate on their projects after the workshop; indeed, this workshop aims to plant the seeds for a long-term partnership among Math Circle educators in southern California.
