This workshop will bring together participants with backgrounds in mathematics, mathematics education, informal STEM learning, and K-12 teaching/teacher preparation who share a commitment to welcoming multicultural learners in informal mathematics learning spaces.

The goals of this workshop include:

  1. Creating a framework for designing culturally responsive, cognitively demanding, informal mathematical investigations.
  2. Generating exemplars of high quality, culturally responsive mathematics activities for out-of-school programs that engage culturally diverse learners and their teachers.
  3. Building a long-term partnership between formal and informal sectors of the mathematics education ecosystem, centered around a shared commitment to equitable and culturally responsive mathematics instruction.
