Degenerations in algebraic geometry
August 17 to August 21, 2015
at the
American Institute of Mathematics,
San Jose, California
organized by
Brian Osserman and Ravi Vakil
Original Announcement
This workshop will be devoted to the study
of degeneration techniques in algebraic geometry, in several differing
but interrelated contexts. The goal is to study open questions in the field
by bringing together experts in adjacent areas, who may be able to suggest
new approaches. To more fully explore possible approaches to these problems,
the workshop will also include experts in tropical geometry.
The main topics for the workshop are:
- Degenerations of linear series on the plane: the interpolation problem.
-
Limit linear series on nodal curves: applications and generalization to
curves not of compact type
-
Degenerations of Schubert varieties: intersections of non-general Schubert
varieties
