Delta symbols and the subconvexity problem

November 2 to November 6, 2020

at the

American Institute of Mathematics, San Jose, California

organized by

Roman Holowinsky, Paul Nelson, and Matthew Young

Original Announcement

This workshop will be devoted to the understanding of novel delta methods that have had applications to subconvexity problems in recent years. Notably, Munshi has produced subconvexity bounds for twists of $GL_3$ automorphic forms. Recent advances have found additional improvements and simplifications to Munshi's variations on the delta method, and there is much room for further developments in this area.

Goals for the workshop:

  1. Understanding the scope and applicability of the new delta symbol techniques to new problems.
  2. Understanding the fundamental mechanisms for success in the delta method; stripping away all but the truly essential characteristics.
  3. Disseminating some of the new techniques in a user-friendly fashion.
