Estelle Basor received her PhD from the University of California at Santa Cruz and taught at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo for more than 30 years. In 2008 she came to AIM and served as Deputy Director until 2023. She has held visiting positions at UCSC and Bryn Mawr College. Her research interests are in the areas of operator theory and random matrix theory and is on the Editorial Board of Random Matrices: Theory and Applications.

Gunnar Carlsson is a mathematics professor at Stanford and has also served as department chair. He has held faculty positions at the University of Chicago, University of California at San Diego, and Princeton University. In 2008 he co-founded Ayasdi, a data analysis company based in Palo Alto.

Tom Davis was a founder and principal scientist at Silicon Graphics for 16 years. For the past 20 years he has been busy coaching middle- and high-school students and middle-school teachers to apply problem solving techniques in mathematics.

John Fry (Secretary of the Board of Trustees) is founder and CEO of Fry’s Electronics.

Fiona A. Harrison is the Kent and Joyce Kresa Leadership Chair of the Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy at Caltech, Harold A. Rosen Professor of Physics at Caltech, and the Principal Investigator for NASA’s Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array mission.

Richard Merkin is the founder and CEO of Heritage Provider Network, as well as a philanthropist, board member, and co-founder of various organizations that support science, healthcare, and education.

Harry J. Saal is active in philanthropy and community affairs in the Bay Area, currently serving as Chair of the Arthritis Foundation Northern California Chapter. From 2002 until 2011 he led the Technical Committee for the US Department of Justice charged with monitoring and enforcing the Microsoft antitrust settlement. Dr. Saal was the founder and CEO of Network General Corporation, the first company wholly dedicated to the area of network diagnostics.
