June 22 to June 26, 2026

at the

American Institute of Mathematics, Pasadena, California

organized by

Christine Berkesch, Michelle Manes, Priyam Patel, Candice Price, and Bianca Viray

This workshop, sponsored by AIM and the NSF, aims to support mathematics graduate students in their transition to research in the areas of combinatorics, algebra, geometry, and number theory (broadly construed). Mentors guide small groups of participants in developing the skills and confidence to read research articles. Sessions on norm setting, belongingness, and professional development foster lasting community among the participants, mentors, and organizers. The workshop is designed to build a welcoming and supportive research community.

The Mentors are:

  • Algebra: Ranthony Clark and Yariana Diaz
  • Combinatorics: Anastasia Chavez and Rebecca Garcia
  • Geometry: Johanna Mangahas and Brandis Whitfield
  • Number Theory: Cathy Hsu and Edna Jones
Applications are open to all mathematics graduate students in their first three years of study who would like to be part of building this supportive community. The application deadline is March 1, 2026 by midnight Pacific time.
