EaGR: Early graduate research in applied mathematics

This workshop, sponsored by AIM and the NSF, is a week-long summer program for incoming second- or third-year students in applied mathematics graduate programs in the USA. It is designed to support and train a new generation of mathematical scientists in applied and computational mathematics.
Applied mathematics research is rapidly shifting from classical applied mathematics, which focuses mainly on physical applications, to one that is more heavily driven by data and technology. In this Big Data era, students must be suitably trained in computational skills such as statistics, optimization, and machine learning.
This workshop seeks to provide participants with the initial skills and the confidence to transition smoothly to the next stage of their graduate program through tutorials, professional development activities, and research talks related to the mathematics of data science and its applications. Tutorials will focus on skills such as computer programming, mathematical modeling, and data management and computing. In addition, the workshop will provide participants with the skills to thrive in industrial careers, networking opportunities, and professional development sessions.
Monday through Thursday activities 9:00am to 5:00pm and will involve a mixture of lecture, tutorials, hands-on practice, professional development, and networking. Friday activities will end at Noon.
