Open educational resources: adoption, curation, and customization
to be held at the
University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colorado
organized by
Veronika Furst, Lon Mitchell, Shahla Nasserasr, and Violeta Vasilevska
This workshop, sponsored by AIM and the NSF, will focus on the creation of open educational resources (OERs) in the mathematical sciences. A primary goal will be to help those who wish to create OERs learn the powerful new tools that are available for doing so.
Participants are encouraged to apply as part of a team of up to three colleagues from the same institution but may also apply as an individual. Participants should submit their application with a particular project in mind. This should be a specific open educational resource they wish to develop and share. For example, a participant's proposed project could be to create an OER textbook from their own set of class notes, or to take an existing OER textbook but modify a particular chapter to better suit the needs of their students. Activities at the workshop will be focused on familiarizing the participants with the tools available for OER creation. Projects should be ambitious but able to be completed within one year of the date of the workshop.
Topics will include:
- PROSE ecosystem software: PreTeXt, Runestone, WeBWorK, and Doenet.
- OER authoring workflow.
- Collaboration tools.
- Accessibility.
- Licensing.
Space and funding is available for a few more participants/teams. If you would like to participate, please apply by filling out the on-line form no later than January 21, 2025. Applications are open to all, and we especially encourage women, underrepresented minorities, junior mathematicians, and researchers from primarily undergraduate institutions to apply. If you are applying as a team, each member should submit an application, one of the applications should describe the team and its goals, and the other applications should just indicate that they are a team member.
Before submitting an application, please read the description of the AIM style of workshop.
